SUMMARY:Continuing Ed: Lowering HERS Scores Through Smarter Building Decisions - CEC.03383
DESCRIPTION:What happens when a project isn’t hitting the HERS score you’re aiming for? In this interactive\, choose-your-own-adventure-style course\, participants will work through real-world building scenarios\, make decisions\, and see how different choices affect a home’s energy performance and HERS score. Along the way\, builders will explore which strategies offer the greatest opportunities for improvement and how to navigate tradeoffs when design\, budget\, site conditions\, or other project constraints make a lower score harder to achieve. \n\n\n\nA Zoom link and additional instructions will be emailed to all registrants. \n\n\n\nInstructors: Amy Musser \n\n\n\nAmy is co-founder and principal of VandeMusser Design\, PLLC\, founded in 2002. Amy received her Bachelors and Ph.D. degrees in Architectural Engineering and an M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University. She is an active member of the American Society of Heating\, Refrigerating\, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE)\, and has previously held a faculty position in Architectural Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and as a researcher in the Indoor Air Quality group at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg\, MD. \n\n\n\nMethod: Synchronous Distance Learning (SDL) / Group Zoom \n\n\n\nCourse Hours: 2.00 \n\n\n\nCE Provider: Green Built Alliance

SUMMARY:Continuing Ed: Green Building Design 1: Devil In the Details (Thermal Envelope) - CEC.03385
DESCRIPTION:Small design decisions in the thermal envelope can have a big impact on cost\, constructability\, and performance. This course for builders\, architects\, and residential designers explores common thermal envelope details and where they can be simplified\, improved\, or approached differently to achieve better results in the field. Participants will work through real-world construction challenges\, consider multiple solutions\, and learn how better detailing early in the design process can help prevent problems\, improve performance\, and make construction easier. \n\n\n\nA Zoom link and additional instructions will be emailed to all registrants. \n\n\n\nInstructors: Matt Vande \n\n\n\nMatt is also a co-founder and principal of VandeMusser Design\, PLLC\, and received his Bachelor of Architecture degree and an M.S. degree in Architectural Engineering from Pennsylvania State University. Matt has extensive experience in the building and designing of energy-efficient homes. When not hugging trees\, Matt can often be found hiking in the mountains around Western North Carolina with Bear and Amy. \n\n\n\nMethod: Synchronous Distance Learning (SDL) / Group Zoom \n\n\n\nCourse Hours: 2.00 \n\n\n\nCE Provider: Green Built Alliance
