Continuing Ed: DOE Efficient New Homes Program and Beyond – CEC.03214
Tue October 20 @ 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Building solar-ready from the start is easier and more cost-effective than trying to make a home ready later. This course gives builders and other residential professionals a practical look at the DOE Efficient New Homes (formerly the DOE Zero Energy Ready Home) certification process, including how ENERGY STAR and EPA Indoor AirPlus fit into the program and where builders commonly encounter challenges. Participants will also learn how to plan ahead for solar, battery storage, electric vehicles, and other future-ready technologies, from roof design and available space to wiring and electrical infrastructure, helping to create homes that are ready to adapt as technology and homeowner needs evolve.
A Zoom link and additional instructions will be emailed to all registrants.
Instructors: Amy Musser & Doug Ager
Amy is co-founder and principal of VandeMusser Design, PLLC, founded in 2002. Amy received her Bachelors and Ph.D. degrees in Architectural Engineering and an M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University. She is an active member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and has previously held a faculty position in Architectural Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and as a researcher in the Indoor Air Quality group at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, MD.
Doug is the CEO and Co-Founder of Sugar Hollow Solar. He’s been a hard worker his whole life – in high school he started a firewood business where he split everything by hand! He grew up at Hickory Nut Gap Farm and graduated from Warren Wilson College and then Western Carolina University with a masters in English Literature. After spending years working with his hands as a farrier and carpenter, he joined his cousin Phelps to kickoff Sugar Hollow Solar. He became interested in business and the idea that it could be a force for good while watching his brother and brother’s wife build Hickory Nut Gap Meats. Nowadays, he still loves doing all the country boy things like fishing, hunting, and gardening, as well as being a Dad to his toddler.
