Continuing Ed: Lowering HERS Scores Through Smarter Building Decisions – CEC.03383

What happens when a project isn’t hitting the HERS score you’re aiming for? In this interactive, choose-your-own-adventure-style course, participants will work through real-world building scenarios, make decisions, and see how different choices affect a home’s energy performance and HERS score. Along the way, builders will explore which strategies offer the greatest opportunities for improvement and how to navigate tradeoffs when design, budget, site conditions, or other project constraints make a lower score harder to achieve.

Instructors: Amy Musser
Amy is co-founder and principal of VandeMusser Design, PLLC, founded in 2002. Amy received her Bachelors and Ph.D. degrees in Architectural Engineering and an M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University. She is an active member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and has previously held a faculty position in Architectural Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and as a researcher in the Indoor Air Quality group at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, MD.
