Managing rainwater well can protect a building site while creating a healthier, more attractive landscape. This course explores practical, nature-based approaches to keeping rainwater on site and allowing it to soak into the ground rather than becoming runoff. Participants will learn how strategies such as rain gardens, green roofs, permeable pavers, and rainwater harvesting can help manage stormwater and protect water quality while providing added benefits such as improved aesthetics, pollinator habitat, and groundwater recharge. The course will help builders, designers, and other professionals identify opportunities to incorporate green infrastructure into residential projects from the start.

Renee Fortner is the Watershed Resources Manager at environmental non-profit RiverLink. As an avid river paddler, home gardener, and naturalist, Renee is continually reminded how the environment around us and our daily lives are affected by access to clean, abundant water. Through her work at RiverLink, Renee works collaboratively with communities, businesses, and local governments to implement nature-based solutions to the negative impacts of stormwater runoff on our region’s waterways and infrastructure.
